Oregon State Sweeps Saturday Racing

SPOKANE, Wash. – Oregon State men's rowing was in action on Saturday, competing and winning in four separate races against Gonzaga, UC San Diego and Santa Clara.
"The team has put in a lot of work to make this happen," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "Every member of the team had to put in their best races to beat the Zags in all the boats. This feeling doesn't come easy but it is worth it. It was great conditions for racing and I'm proud of everyone."
With five different boats in action, all of which were eights, Saturday's regatta started with a convincing victory for the 3V8+, who fought a six mile per hour head wind to finish the course in 6:12.9, some six seconds ahead of the 4V8+, whose second place finish was some 13 seconds ahead of Gonzaga.
The varsity eight race was tight but Oregon State's crew would prevail, besting the Zags' 5:48.98 by finishing in 5:47.07 to secure victory number two on the day, with Saturday's win marking number two on the season for OSU's top boat.
With a tail wind, Oregon State's 2V8+ then went head-to-head with Gonzaga, winning with a 5:54.4, before the 5V8+ battled Gonzaga's crew and took home yet another win thanks to a 25 second margin of victory.
Beaver men's rowing returns to action next weekend, heading to the east coast to race against Penn, Cornell and Holy Cross in Philadelphia, Pa.; the MPSF Championship is slated for May 17-18.
