Sund Tied For Lead, Beavers Second After First Round

LAHAINA, Hawai'i – Oregon State's Madde Sund shot a 4-under 68 to end Monday's first round tied for the lead at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Lahaina, Hawai'i.
Sund led an impressive Oregon State effort, as the Beavers ended the day in second with a 5-under 283. OSU sits one stroke behind tournament leader Mercer.
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 11 a.m. PT (8 a.m. HT) on Tuesday and live scoring is available at this link.
Sund recorded a total of seven birdies on Monday, including six-straight on the front-nine, as she headed to the turn at 6-under. The senior's 4-under performance matches the best single-round score of her collegiate career, tying her mark at the 2023 NCAA Regionals.
Raya Nakao will head into Tuesday tied for 10th place, after firing a 2-under 70 on the opening day. The Kaneohe, Hawai'i native totaled five birdies in her first round, including four in a five-hole stretch. Monday marks the seventh round this season Nakao has finished in red numbers.
Kyra Ly rounded out a trio of Beavers below par, as she opened the tournament with a 1-under 71. Overall the junior amassed five birdies on the day, including four on the front-nine to end the round tied for 16th. Ly has finished six of her last seven rounds even-par or better.
Clara Alevag highlighted her day by eagling the par-5 sixth-hole – one of six eagles recorded by the 98-player field in Monday's action. She also birdied the par-4 11th-hole to wrap up her afternoon tied for 48th with a 2-over 74.
Rebecca Kim netted four birdies in a five-hole stretch. She also recorded a 2-over 74 to head into Tuesday tied for 48th.
Washington and Denver ended the day tied for third at 3-under. Sacramento State rounded out the top-five with a first round score of 1-under.
