Beavers Win Four Races at Redwood Shores Invitational
April 06, 2025 | Men's Rowing
SAN CARLOS, Calif. – Oregon State men's rowing competed in the second iteration of the Redwood Shores Invitational this weekend, winning four races and setting a new program record in the process.
"This was a fun weekend. The guys took home four victories against some tough competition," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "The 3V was amazing, breaking six minutes, three times in a row, which we've never done that before in that boat.
"We have an award that we give out every week to the guy that has crushed it over the week. This week, it went to Sam Logan, a sophomore from Grand Rapids, Michigan, who was in that 3V boat that beat UCSD and Wisconsin. He says that 'sometimes you jus have to trust the guys in your boat and go all in at the start to win the race' which they did. Overall, great weather and great racing!"
Coxed by Lidya Acar, Oregon State's varsity eight bested UC San Diego with a 5:49.7 that would prove to be the team's fastest time of any boat to compete across the two-day event. Not only was it the Beavs' first win of the day, but it was also the boat's first win of the spring season, having previously finished second while racing on March 1-2.
The Varsity Eight's win was the first of three-consecutive for Oregon State, who also had the second and third eight win on Saturday, with all three wins coming with sub-six minute times and a margin of victory of at least five seconds.
The second eight came within three seconds of claiming its second win of the weekend on Sunday, but finished just over three seconds behind Wisconsin.
Beaver Men's Rowing returns to action next weekend, hosting Washington at Vancouver Lake.
