INTERIM NO MORE:
Named the Interim Head Coach on July 9, 2024, Caroline Kelly made an instant impact during her first season as head coach, which included notable improvements on both sides of the ball, a six-game unbeaten streak and three-win improvement. Oregon State defeated No. 11 Santa Clara, 2-1, on Senior Day at Paul Lorenz Field, claiming the program's first win over a ranked opponent since Sept. 30, 2021. Having played No. 20 Pepperdine to a 1-1 draw the week prior, the Beavers claimed points against ranked opponents in consecutive games for the first time since 2012.
For the team's performances, Kelly had the interim tag removed and was officially named head coach on Nov. 13, 2024, and now enters her second season at the helm of the program.
NEW FACES:
OSU had a veteran-laden roster in 2024, which featured a combined 12 seniors and graduate students, accounting for nearly half the roster. Including the players who opted to hit the transfer portal, the Beavers thus replaced over half of the roster this offseason. Joining true freshmen Isa Calderon (Tijuana, Mexico), Avery Pleiman (Independence, Ky.) and London Tsuma (Portland, Ore.) are Emily Ibsen (Parker, Colo. / Adams State), Abbi Leonard (Salt Lake City, Utah / Grand Canyon), Nathalie Lewis (Queen Creek, Ariz. / Washington State), Sammy Martinez (Watsonville, Calif. / Hartnell College), Nathalie Mejia (Silver Spring, Md. / Mount St. Mary's), Kassidy Michael (Manheim, Pa. / Southern New Hampshire), Alexi Morgan (Springfield, Ore. / Chemeketa Community College), Adele Schwab (Troutman, N.C. / Campbell), Evee Stoddard (Pocatello, Idaho / Peninsula College) and Alyssa White (Nashville, Tenn. / Wexford FC).
LEVELING UP:
Several of the newcomers will be playing their first season at the Division I level this fall. Ibsen (Adams State) and Michael (Southern New Hampshire) were previously at Division II schools while Martinez (Hartnell College), Morgan (Chemeketa Community College) and Stoddard (Peninsula College) played at junior colleges last season.
ALL-CONFERENCE:
Though the program welcomed many new faces, several key contributors are back in the orange and black.
Mya Sanchez proved to be one of the top goalkeepers in the conference in 2024, leading the WCC in saves (92) and saves per game (5.11) while ranking third in overall save percentage (78.0). She took her game to a new level during conference play, leading the league in save percentage across the Beavers' 10 conference games, stopping 83.0% of the shots she faced. Named All-WCC Honorable Mention and All-WCC Academic Honorable Mention, Sanchez was named to the 2025 Preseason All-WCC Team last week.
Carly Carraher was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2024, starting 14 of her 17 appearances and playing 1,230 minutes. She scored the game-tying goal in the 85th minute of a 2-1 win over Wyoming and found her form late in the season, scoring twice in a win at San Diego before contributing assists against No. 20 Pepperdine and again in a 2-1 win over then-ranked No. 11 Santa Clara. She finished with single season career-highs for points, goals and assists.
Rin Choi (one assist across 11 appearances), Mia Erba (1,613 minutes played across 18 starts), and Megin Turi (two goals across 818 minutes played) were all on the WCC All-Academic Team in 2024 and figure to play key roles in 2025.
ROUNDED OUT:
On top of the new additions to the program, Coach Kelly added two new assistant coaches and a director of operations this offseason.
Kwame Oduro spent the last 10 seasons leading the St. Bonaventure men's program, where the Bonnies won 49 games, had six Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selections, two United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees and four A-10 Academic selections; nine players went on to sign professional contracts with several others earning professional trials.
Paige Brandt coached at WestCliff University and Long Beach City College before Oregon State, where she developed Kayli Cokley, who ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for goals against average (0.14) and No. 2 for save percentage (.938) during the 2024 season. With LBCC, she helped Abraham Ramirez to South Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and MVP honors after posting 0.77 goals against average, while Jackie Garibay allowed an average of just 0.63 goals per game, also earning South Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Originally from Hillsboro, Ore., Ella Smith played at St. Bonaventure for three seasons where she was a two-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree and will work toward a master's degree while serving as the team's director of operations.
BEAVS IN THE PROS:
With Katie Godden (Charlton Athletic / England) and McKenna Martinez (Valadares Gaia / Portugal) signing professional contracts after the conclusion of last season, Oregon State has officially sent six players into the professional ranks across the last four seasons. Led off by Laura Galceran and Bridgette Skiba in 2021, Reese Moffatt signed a deal in 2022 before Hailey Coll in 2023 and both Godden and Martinez in 2024.
BACK THE PAC:
Oregon State will play its final season in the West Coast Conference this fall before returning to Pac-12 play in 2026. All eight of the conference's other members, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State, sponsor women's soccer, each bringing a high level of talent to the conference. Utah State is the reigning Mountain West Tournament Champion, also winning the conference tournament in 2023, while Boise State was crowned regular season champion in 2024 after San Diego State was crowned regular season champion the year prior. Texas State is coming off a 12-win season that ended with a 3-2 loss in the Sun Belt Championship while Gonzaga was recently picked to finish third in the WCC.
