September 16, 2025 | Women's Golf
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Oregon State women's golf team opened its 2025-26 season with a second-place finish at the Leadership and Golf Invitational on Tuesday.
The Beavers posted a 1-under 291-287-285—863 at the par-72, 6,137-yard Chambers Bay Golf Course to finish second in the 16-team field.
Kyra Ly, Raya Nakao and Clara Alevag all recorded Top 10 finishes in the season's first event.
Ly, a senior from Portland, led the Beavers with a tie for fourth-place finish after posting a 2-under 73-71-70—214. She had 11 birdies over the 54 holes, including four in the first and third rounds.
The reigning WCC Player of the Year, Ly now has nine Top 10 finishes and 32 sub-par scores in her sensational Oregon State career. She had five Top 10 finishes last season as a junior, tied for the third most in Beaver history, when she set the single-season scoring average record with a 71.88.
Nakao, a junior from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, finished in sixth place with a 1-under 74-71-70—215 with 10 birdies over the three rounds, including five on the final day.
A selection to the 10-member WCC All-Conference Team last season, Nakao had four Top 10 finishes in each of her first two years and already has one this season. She now has 25 sub-par scores in two-plus years at Oregon State.
Alevag, a sophomore from Gothenburg, Sweden, had her best career finish as a Beaver, a tie for 11th place, with a 1-over 72-73-72—217. Her previous best finish was a tie for 21st place as a true freshman last season at the WCC Championship.
She also had her best career three-round score with a 1-over 217, bettering the 8-over 224 she posted at both the Causeway Invitational and Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
True freshman Kate Nakaoka, a native of Mililani, Hawai'i, played great in her first career college tournament, posting a 2-over 73-72-73—218 to finish in 13th place. She had nine birdies and nothing worse than a bogey over the 54 holes.
Rebecca Kim, a junior from South Surrey, B.C., finished in a tie for 22nd place with a 7-over 73-76-74—223. She equaled Ly for the team lead with 11 birdies in the tournament. It is the third Top 25 finish in her Oregon State career with the best being 15th place at the WCC Championship last spring.
Eastern Michigan captured the team title with a 5-under 859, four strokes better than the Beavers, and Janae Leovao of Eastern Michigan claimed medalist honors with a 7-under 209.
The Beavers will return to action on Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30 when they host the Molly Collegiate Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. Admission is free.
