“We have watched Kate for several years now, and to finally sign her as a Beav is exciting,” Shockley said. “Since a young age, Kate has shown great poise on the course and has an internal competitive fire that I can’t wait to see continue to grow in her time here at Oregon State.
“Kate has proven herself among the top junior golfers in the country, and we look forward to watching her continued success at the collegiate level. I am thrilled to welcome her to Beaver Nation and look forward to all she will accomplish in the next four years.”
Nakaoka, a native of Mililani, Hawai’i, will be a four-year letterwinner in golf at Mililani High School at the conclusion of the 2025 spring season. She was named the Oahu Interscholastic Association West Player of the Year three years in a row and voted her high school’s Most Valuable Player. Nakaoka has led Mililani High School to second place finishes at the HHSAA State Championships each of the last two years.
She chose Oregon State because “I think I will fit in well with the team. I really like the campus and the golf facilities, and I will be able to improve my golf game there.”
Nakaoka carries a 4.0 cumulative GPA at Mililani High School. Her favorite hobby is baking. Her mother, Tatum, is an accountant and her father, Brent, is a civil engineer. She has one sister, Mia.
