CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team saw their season-best five-match winning streak come to an end on Thursday, falling in four sets to Oregon in a hard-fought battle.
The Beavers (5-4) took the opening set but were edged in the final three to suffer its first loss of the season in Gill Coliseum. Oregon sealed the match at 25-23, 20-25, 25-27, 25-27.
Lauren Rumel led the Beavers' attack with 15 kills while Emma Lilo (23) and Jackie Matias (22) combined for over 50 assists to keep the offense going. Annika Hester and Alana Marrs also helped the offensive effort with 11 kills apiece to their name. The defense was led by Tia Shum's dozen digs while the duo of Rumel and Marrs used a block each.
The Beavers pulled away in set one behind four Maëli Cormier kills and six Lilo assists to get the offense up early. Deadlocked at 23, a Rumel ace and an Alondra Paz ace sealed the first frame. Oregon responded in the second by keeping the Beavers to just a .235 clip en route to taking the second by a five-point margin at 25-20. Two bonus point sets – at 27-25 apiece – were what the Ducks needed to spoil the evening for the home fans.
Oregon State will visit the Rose City on Saturday to take on Portland State in the nonconference finale. First serve against the Vikings is set for 5 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
