
Beavers Drop Lancers, Move to Top of Pac-12

RIVERSIDE, Calif.  – The Oregon State men's soccer team moved into first-place in the Pac-12 with a 4-1 win over Cal Baptist Wednesday evening in Riverside, Calif.

Tim Hoffman scored the first two goals of the match, as the sophomore brought his total to five goals this season and four in his last five matches. Aidan Marquez netted his first goal of the campaign, and Wyatt Borso scored his ninth of the year and his fourth in OSU's last three games.

With the win, Oregon State moves to 6-1-4 on the season, and 2-0-1 in Pac-12 play. Cal Baptist moves to 8-3 on the year and 2-1-0 in league play, as the Beavers snapped the Lancers' six-game winning streak. With seven points through its first three Pac-12 matches, Oregon State will head into the weekend one point ahead of second-place Cal Baptist.

The Beavers dominated the first half, and were rewarded with a pair of goals in the opening frame.

Hoffman opened the scoring early, converting on a scramble in the box, after Gavin Wolff had played a dangerous ball into the penalty area. Max Eisenberg forced a save in the 20th minute with a shot from outside the box. Hoffman added his second in the 25th minute, converting from the right side of the box off a feed from Michael Nesci.

Marquez nearly scored the Beaver third late in the first half, and Evan Carlock came close again in the 41st minute. Oregon State controlled the entirety of the opening period, heading the break in front 2-0.

The Lancers opened the second half on the front-foot, as they looked to get back into the game. Marquez netted Oregon State's third in the 57th minute, turning one into the net after a great cross from Eisenberg.

Cal Baptist pulled one back less than two minutes later, but Borso restored the three-goal advantage in the 65th minute, heading Oliver Hernandez Parra's corner kick into the side netting. Both sides created some scoring chances down the stretch, before the Beavers ultimately claimed the three-goal victory.

OSU recorded 14 shots on the night, and out-shot the Lancers 9-2 in the first half.

Oregon State will head south on Saturday for a matchup with UC San Diego.
