Krieg Hits First Homer Of 2026, Beavers Edged By No. 20 Southern Miss

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Jacob Krieg hit his first home run of the season and Ethan Kleinschmit struck out 10 but No. 11 Oregon State was unable to hold on to an early lead in a 9-4 loss to Southern Miss Saturday night at Dell Diamond.
Krieg put the Beavers (4-2) in the lead with a three-run home run in the fourth. His first long ball of the season scored Jacob Galloway and Ryan VandenBrink and put the Beavers up 3-1.
That lead, however, only lasted until the sixth when Southern Miss (5-1) put three on the board against Kleinschmit. The lefty had come into the inning retiring 13 straight but gave up a triple, single and then a two-run home run by cleanup hitter Davis Gillespie to exit after 5 1/3 innings.
Southern Miss scored three more times in the seventh to go up, 7-3. Nyan Hayes answered with a two-out run scoring single in the bottom half of the inning. That, however, marked Oregon State's final run of the night.
Kleinschmit took the loss, dropping to 0-1 this season. He and fellow starter Dax Whitney have combined for 27 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings in Round Rock.
Galloway recorded three hits, and has a team-leading four multiple-hit efforts this season. Cooper Vance tallied his first multi-hit effort of his young Oregon State career, also totaling three against the Eagles.
Both Galloway and Vance equaled career-highs.
The Beavers tallied six hits and three runs against Southern Miss starter Grayden Harris. He earned the win to pick up his first victory of the season.
