Oregon State Clinches Series At Lamar With Second Straight Shutout
April 03, 2026 | Baseball
BEAUMONT, Texas — Bryce Hubbard homered and Dax Whitney tossed 6 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball to lead No. 9 Oregon State to an 8-0 win over Lamar Friday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Beavers, now 23-6 on the year, clinched the series with their second consecutive shutout. Oregon State's back-to-back shut downs of the Lamar offense is the Beavers' first on an opponent's home turf since 2013 at San Diego State.
Hubbard homered in the seventh, delivering a solo shot over the right field fence despite strong winds. He also drove in a pair on a single in the second inning.
Whitney made his eighth start of the season and was dominant, scattering four hits with two walks. He struck out 10 and surpassed 200 for his Oregon State career. He got the win, improving to 5-0 on the year.
Zach Edwards tossed the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out three to give the Beavers 13 on the night.
Adam Haight put the Beavers on the board first with a run-scoring double in the first, bringing in Easton Talt, who had singled to open the game. Haight himself then scored when Jacob Galloway reached on a single.
Oregon State put three insurance runs on the board in the ninth. AJ Singer drove home on a run on a sacrifice fly, Paul Vazquez produced an RBI on a groundout and Cooper Vance reached base for the 20th consecutive game with an RBI single to left center.
Hubbard keyed the OSU offensive output with two of the team's nine hits.
The win gave Oregon State back-to-back shutouts since 2025 against UNLV and Indiana in Surprise, Ariz. It's also the first time the Beavers have shut out an opponent in back-to-back games, regardless of location, since 2017 against Ball State in a series in Corvallis.
The teams conclude the three-game series Saturday with an 11:05 a.m. PT first pitch (1:05 p.m. in Texas). Note the earlier start time than originally scheduled due to expected rain in the forecast later in the day.
