Singer, Morris Lead Beavers To Sweep At LBSU
May 10, 2026 | Baseball
LONG BEACH, Calif. - AJ Singer homered and drove in four runs while Trey Morris struck out nine over six innings as Oregon State beat Long Beach State 8-4 Sunday at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
The win gave the Beavers their 40th victory of the season for the fifth consecutive year. Oregon State is now 40-11 overall, has won five straight and closed the regular season 15-2 in true road games.
Morris (5-0) allowed three runs — two earned — on three hits and three hits in the win. The freshman struck out nine.
Singer did the bulk of the offensive damage. He singled in the first to plate Easton Talt, who had walked and stolen second, to put Oregon State ahead 1-0. Then in the third, with Talt on first, Singer turned on a first-pitch fastball from Jason Gerfers and drove it to deep left for a two-run home run to make it 3-2. He added an RBI single in the sixth off Gerfers, finishing 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and four RBI.
Long Beach State answered Singer's first-inning run immediately in the bottom of the second. Justin Roulston hit a two-run homer to left off Morris to put the Beach ahead 2-1. It was one of three hits for Roulston, who finished with two RBI.
Oregon State regained the lead in the third on Singer's homer, but Long Beach State tied it in the fifth when Smith Chandler hit an infield single to score Conner Stewart, who had reached on a fielding error.
The Beavers broke it open in the sixth. Singer walked and Bryce Hubbard singled him to third. Paul Vazquez grounded into a double play that scored Singer. With two outs and runners on the corners, Josh Proctor singled to plate one, and Proctor advanced to second on an error. Jacob Galloway then singled to left center, scoring two more to push the lead to 7-3.
All four sixth-inning runs came with two outs, and only one was earned.
Galloway went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Talt reached base four times on a hit and two walks, stole two bases and scored three runs. Hubbard was 2-for-3.
Long Beach State pulled within 7-4 in the seventh on a Roulston single that scored a run that was charged to Tanner Douglas. Zach Kmatz came in and finished the seventh and worked the eighth without allowing a run.
Albert Roblez closed it out in the ninth, coming in after Singer's run in the ninth made it 8-4.
Gerfers absorbed the loss, surrendering seven runs — three earned — on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts in six innings.
Oregon State returns home for Tuesday midweek matchup against Portland that begins at 5:35 p.m. PT.
