2012-13

Rowed in the 7-seat of the Second Varsity 8 in a second place finish at the Portland Fall Classic … rowed in the 4-seat of the 2V8 at the University of Victoria … raced in the 4-seat of the 2V8 in a win at Gonzaga … rowed in the 6-seat of the 2V8 at the Pac-12 Invitational including a dual victory over Northeastern … rowed in the 6-seat of the 2V8 at the Clemson Invitational registering victories over Tennessee, Michigan State, Miami, Duke (twice), Penn, Texas and Central Florida … rowed in the 6-seat of the 2V8 at the Pac-12 Championships … earned 2013 Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team.

2011-12

Split time between the Varsity 4+ and the Second Varsity 8 … raced in the 3-seat of the 2V8 in wins over the University of Victoria and Gonzaga … rowed in the 2-seat of the V4+ finishing fifth in the Petite Final … rowed in the stroke seat of the V4+ at the Michigan Invitational, in a second place finish at Washington State and also at Pac-12 Championships … earned 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team … accepted to participate in the 2012 NCAA National Career in Sport Forum in Indianapolis in June.

2010-11

Kayla (K.J.) rowed mostly in the Varsity 8 in 2011 earning her first letter … raced in stroke seat of the Second Varsity 8 at the San Diego Crew Classic finishing first in the Petite Final … set the pace in the stroke seat of the 2V8 at the Elk Lake Spring Regatta helping the Beavers to the victory … rowed in the bow seat of the Varsity 4+ at Gonzaga finishing first … raced in the V8 at the Pac-10 Championships … earned Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team.

2009-10

Rowed in the Novice 8 boat in both the 3- and 5-seat … N8 posted wins against Gonzaga, Victoria, UCLA, Washington State and placed fourth at Pac-10 Championships.

CORVALLIS HS

Played varsity basketball for three years winning the league championship in 2008 and 2009 … varsity golf for all four years, qualifying to state in both 2008 and 2009 … was a member of the National Honor Society … selected as Mr. Spartan Girl and raised over $120,000 for the Mario Pastega House and the Good Samaritan Cancer Foundation.

PERSONAL

Daughter of Stewart and Laurie Laney … has two siblings, Andrew and, twin sister, Karly … sister Karly is also on the women's rowing team … favorite athlete is Michael Jordan … biggest athletic thrill to date was winning league and placing fourth in state two years in a row (basketball) … chose Oregon State because "it's my hometown and I've been a Beaver my whole life!" … outside of rowing Kayla enjoys basketball, golf and reading … majoring in exercise and sports science with an option in fitness and nutrition and a minor in psychology.
