Volleyball Falls To No. 2 Stanford

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 2 Stanford volleyball team combined for a .418 hitting percentage as the Cardinal swept Oregon State on Saturday. Game scores were 15-9, 15-4, and 15-2.
Stanford's Kerri Walsh was the only player on either team to post double-figure kills. She finished with 13 kills and just one error in 15 tries for an impressive .800 attack percentage. Lindsey Yamasaki and Logan Tom added eight kills for the Cardinal (19-2, 11-1).
Katrina Nelson led the Beavers (8-13, 2-11) in kills for the first time in her career. The redshirt freshman turned in nine kills and hit a team-best .238 on the night.
OSU's Gina Schmidt tallied a match-high seven digs. It was the seventh time in nine matches that she has been OSU's leader in digs.
The Beavers hit just .073 on the night, coming up with 29 kills and 23 errors. Of the five Beavers with more than five attempts, only Nelson and freshman Joscelyn Hannaford hit above .000 for the match. Hannaford hit .059 and tied her career-high with six kills.
Many of OSU's errors came off Stanford blocks. The Cardinal registered 15 team blocks, highlighted by Jennifer Detmer's 11 block assists. OSU had just four blocks on the night, with Hannaford and Michele Solomon each picking up three block assists.
Stanford turned in 43 kills to OSU's 29, and the Cardinal outdug OSU, 27-21. Stanford also won the serving battle with six aces to OSU's two. Tom had three of Stanford's aces.
The Beavers return to action Friday, November 5 when they travel to Eugene to face Oregon at 7:00 p.m.
