Volleyball Swept At No. 7 UCLA

LOS ANGELES - Angie Shirley turned in double-figure kills for the 19th time this year, but the Oregon State volleyball team saw its longest losing streak of the season extended to eight matches as No. 7 UCLA posted a 15-5, 15-8, 15-9 win over OSU on Friday night.
Shirley led OSU (8-15, 2-13 Pac-10) with 10 kills and Gina Schmidt added nine, but no other Beavers had more than four as the rest of the Beaver offense combined for just nine kills on the night.
The Bruins (24-2, 16-1) had 55 kills, led by Kristee Porter's 16. UCLA hit .234 as a team, compared with OSU's .130 attack percentage.
The Beavers did outblock the Bruins, 6-5, with Michele Solomon and Krista Kinsman each picking up four block assists to lead OSU.
UCLA outdug OSU, 55-38. Ashley Bowles had a match-high 14 digs to lead three Bruins with double-digit digs. Schmidt led OSU for the ninth time this season, this time turning in a team-best nine digs.
Oregon State plays at No. 16 Southern California at 6 p.m. Saturday.
