LOS ANGELES - Angie Shirley hit .350 with a team-best eight kills, but No. 16 USC had three players with double-figure kills as the Women of Troy handed the Oregon State volleyball team a 3-0 loss Saturday night. Game scores were 15-3, 15-2 and 15-6.
Antoinette Polk (15 kills, .480) led a dominating Trojan offense. Six Trojans hit above .333 on the night and contributed to the team's second-best offensive performance of the season with a .421 team hitting percentage.
USC improves to 18-6 overall and 13-4 in the Pac-10. Oregon State falls to 8-16 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
While the Beavers did have three players hit better than .300, OSU hit just .178 as a team. In addition to Shirley's .350 mark, Gina Schmidt hit .316 with seven kills and Michele Solomon hit .308 with seven kills. Schmidt also led OSU with six digs, and Solomon had a match-high three blocks.
USC tallied 11 consecutive points in game one to lead the Beavers 11-0. Three Trojan errors then awarded Oregon State's only points, before Janae Henry capped off a game one victory (15-3) with one of her 12 kills. The Women of Troy again dominated much of the action in game two by quickly taking a 4-0 lead. Oregon State got on the board following a kill by both Shirley and Schmidt, but unable to add to the score, surrendered the game, 15-2. Eager to set the pace in game three, Oregon State forced a USC attack error to earn the first point. The tables quickly turned and the Trojans forced the Beavers to four attack errors for the final points in a 15-6 win.
Oregon State hosts Arizona State at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 19 at Gill Coliseum.
