MORAGA, Calif. - St. Mary's finally pushed across a goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime Friday afternoon to hand Oregon State a 1-0 loss in non-league women's soccer. The Gaels' Lucianne Crenshaw booted home the game-winner off assists from Katie Sticinski and Marie McCann.
OSU (4-4-0 overall, 0-0-0 Pacific-10) returns home to play Boise State on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. on Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium. Friday's loss to St. Mary's (3-3-0 overall, 0-0-0 West Coast) was the third game in a row the Beavers have dropped by a 1-0 score.
"Defensively, we've covered a lot of opportunities and kept people out," OSU head coach Steve Fennah said. "But we're not stringing things together going the other way. We're spending too much time defending ... we're not keeping the ball long enough when we have it, and then we're having to defend again."
OSU was outshot 28-14 in the contest and St. Mary's also had an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. Beaver goalkeeper Jerika Duran made nine saves to keep the game even almost to the end.
"On the field, the kids have fought for each other," Fennah said. "Now we've got to get ourselves put together and get ourselves going again. We do have an advantage in that we have our next six games at home."
After meeting Boise State, the Beavers play host to Portland State, Florida State, Pepperdine and Pacific-10 foes Arizona and Arizona State on their longest homestand of the season.
