EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannionpassed for 299 yards and three touchdowns but it wasn't enough to overcome No. 10 Oregon in a 49-21 loss to the Ducks Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium.
The game marked the 115th contest between the teams in the Civil War, presented by the Northwest Ford Dealers and PacificSource Health Plans. It is the longest running rivalry west of the Rocky Mountains.
Oregon ran 102 plays and gained 615 yards, jumping out to a 28-7 halftime lead and eventually pushing its advantage to 42-7. Mannion threw touchdown passes to Kevin Cummings - the first of his career - and Brandin Cooksto pull the Beavers closer in the fourth quarter.
Mannion ended the game completing 27-of-44 passes and his 299 yards passing gave him 3,328 on the season, the third-best single-season mark in team history.
The Beavers held on early, tying the game at seven when Mannion found a wide open Jovan Stevensonin the flat for a 58-yard touchdown pass. It was the third-longest scoring play of the season for the Beavers, and it came at the 11:08 mark of the second quarter.
The Ducks, however, scored the next 35 points to take control of the game.
Cummings led the Beavers (3-9 overall, 3-6 Pac-12) with 63 yards receiving, and he set up his 19-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard catch that set a career-long for distance.
Stevenson (58 yards) and Cooks (56) were close behind Cummings in terms of yardage.
Markus Wheatonhad two catches for 39 yards, giving him 986 on the season, now the 10th-best single-season mark in team history.
Darron Thomas was 27-of-40 for 305 yards for Oregon (10-2, 8-1), throwing for four touchdowns. He found four different receivers in the end zone: David Paulson, DeAnthony Thomas, Colt Lyerla and Kenjon Barner.
LaMichael James was Oregon's leading rusher with 142 yards on 24 carries. He found the end zone on a 1-yard run less than four minutes into the game.
Defensively, the Beavers were led by both Scott Crichtonand Feti `Unga, who had 12 tackles apiece. For Crichton, it set a career-high, surpassing the 11 he had against UCLA earlier this season.
