TEMPE, Ariz. - Makayla Stambaugh won the all-around with a score of 39.425 and the Beavers gave head coach Tanya Chaplin her 300th win at Oregon State with a 196.300-195.450 victory at Arizona State Friday evening. The Beavers, who completed a month-long series of four straight road trips, surpassed the 196-point mark for the third week in a row.
"It is an honor to have the privilege to have worked with such wonderful teams," Chaplin said. "You can't win this often without the faith and support of the administration and all of the hard work from the athletes."
The win makes Chaplin 300-180-2 in her career at Oregon State. Chaplin has led the Beavers to at least 20 wins in nine of her 15-plus seasons, including eight in a row. Chaplin has led Oregon State to the NCAA Championships 10 times and has picked up a pair of NCAA regional championships and a Pac-10 title along the way. Her first wins came over California and Cal State Fullerton in a three-team meet at Berkeley on Jan. 16, 1998.
Chaplin is now one of two OSU coaches to win at least 300 in their time with the Beavers. Jim Turpin won 317 times from 1986-97,
"Tonight's performance was another step in the right direction," Chaplin said. "I'm very proud of their fight and their focus this evening. We're really excited to get back to the gym and work on the details to be ready to host UCLA at home next Saturday."
Oregon State record improved to 7-5, while Arizona State falls to 2-4.
