April 17, 2016 | Women's Rowing
CLEMSON, S.C. – Three Oregon State crews – Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4+ – raced twice Saturday at the Clemson Invitational.
The final race of the day turned out to be the best for the Beavers as the V8 finished third in the second heat of evening racing. The Beavers covered the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6-minutes, 41.1-seconds crossing the finish 1.4-seconds ahead of Oklahoma (6:43.7). The OSU V8 also held off Central Florida, Columbia and Tennessee.
In other afternoon racing, the Beavers' 2V8 and V4+ each finished sixth. OSU's V4+ narrowly held off UCF pulling in just one second ahead. In the 2V8 heat, it was a four crew race for third but the Orange and Black boat (6:51.9) came in just over two seconds behind Columbia for sixth.
The Beavers fought a change in time zones early in the day with an 8:38 a.m. ET first race for the V8 finishing in sixth place. OSU's 2V8 fared a bit better 30 minutes later cruising to a fifth place finish ahead of San Diego, but just behind Harvard. The Beavers' V4+ rowed to sixth in the morning race.
The Beavers are back in action Sunday morning with each crew racing once more at the Clemson Invitational.
