Thompson Jr. Leads Beavers Against 49ers

ORLANDO, Fla. – Stephen Thompson Jr. scored a game-high 24 points and Tres Tinkle recorded a double-double in a 74-69 loss to Long Beach State on Friday afternoon in the second round of the AdvoCare Invitational.
Thompson Jr. made 10 field goals, including two triples, and scored 21 of his 24 points in the second half. He added six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Tinkle posted his sixth career double-double, and second this season, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four assists.
The Beavers (2-3) trailed by nine points in the first half but rallied back to take their first lead of the game with 16:26 to play on a Thompson Jr. layup. They built a seven-point advantage and looked to be in control in front of the crowd of 2,367 at the HP Field House.
But Long Beach State (3-3) chipped away, mostly at the free throw line, and took the lead for good with 4:43 left in the game. The 49ers went 16-for-23 from the stripe in the second half after going just 4-for-7 in the first frame.
Ethan Thompson was the only other Beaver in double figures with 14 points.
Zach Reichle and Gligorije Rakocevic played well off the bench for Oregon State, as they both scored four points. Rakocevic grabbed a season-high six rebounds and Reichle added a career-best four boards.
Deishuan Booker was sensational for Long Beach State, posting a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists. Gabe Levin also had 14 points for the 49ers.
Oregon State struggled from beyond the arc, going 3-for-24, but were able to stay in the game with a 38-28 advantage on points in the paint.
The Beavers will play Marist or Nebraska at 4 p.m. PT (7 p.m. ET) on Sunday in their final game at the AdvoCare Invitational.
