
Beavers Outlast Bison in Season Opener

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team took down North Dakota State 67-65 in a back-and-forth matchup Monday evening at Gill Coliseum.
 
Josiah Lake II helped the Beavers secure victory in the closing moments, converting a layup with two seconds to play to give Oregon State the lead.
 
Lake II finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, one of five Beavers to finish in double-figures. Isaiah Sy led Oregon State in scoring, finishing with 12 points and five rebounds, while Dez White filled the stat-sheet on his OSU debut, ending with 10 points, four rebounds and five assists.
 
Johan Munch had 10 points, despite missing much of the first half due to foul trouble. Yaak Yaak also tallied 10 points, while Matija Samar finished with nine.
 
As a team, Oregon State shot 44 percent from the floor, while holding North Dakota State to 39 percent. The Beavers have now won all 12 season openers played under head coach Wayne Tinkle.
 
The Beavers scored the first seven points of the game and led 10-5 at the game's first media break. The Bison defense clamped down from there, as the teams went back-and-forth. North Dakota State took a 32-30 lead into the break.
 
The teams continued to trade blows early in the second frame, with the score level at 37 at the under four media break. The Beavers used some hot shooting to open up a 47-43 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the contest.
 
The Bison retook the lead at 53-49 mid-way through the closing frame. Oregon State answered to go in front 61-57 with 5:27 on the clock. NDSU retook the lead by a point with just over two minutes to play. With the score level at 65 in the finishing seconds, Lake II drove to the basket and finished his layup through contact to lift Oregon State to victory.
 
Oregon State will return home Friday for a matchup with UIC.
