Beavers Head to Clemson Invitational

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's rowing team embarks on a 2,787-mile journey to race at the Clemson Invitational, Saturday and Sunday.

"We are excited to be a part of this regatta and to see so many different teams," said interim head coach Allison Foster. "This is the biggest regatta that we attend and it will be nice to be able to go up against new competition we haven't seen, as well competition we have already faced. We are excited to represent the state of Oregon and the Oregon State community."

The Beavers will race three boats, including a Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4+.
Â
The Clemson Invitational is made up of three sessions, two sessions on Saturday and one session on Sunday. The first session Saturday begins at 8:30 a.m. ET, with the Beavers V8 participating in the opening event for the regatta. The second session kicks off at 5:52 p.m. ET for OSU with the V4+. Racing concludes with the finals for the weekend starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Oregon State will see competition from 20 schools, including a couple Pac-12 rivals in UCLA and Washington State. In addition to facing Pac-12 competition, the Beavers race against nine top 20 schools from the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll.

Get to know Bailey Daniels, a coxswain, from Roseburg, Ore.

Do you have any pre-race rituals?
To break the nerves, I check the boat several times to make sure everything is working properly and every bolt is tight and ready to race.

What has been your favorite moment as an OSU athlete?
Racing in Texas has been my favorite experience with the team.
Â
If you had a pump-up song, what would it be?
Thunderstruck by AC/DC is my go to pump-up song.

If you could play a different college sport at Oregon State, what would it be and why?
I grew up playing softball and ever since I was little I wanted to play here at Oregon State.

What do you like best about Corvallis?
I like the college town vibes Corvallis has.
Â
How would you describe your teammates?
My teammates are very competitive and always have each other's back.
Â
How would you describe your coaches?
Enthusiastic and determined.
Â
Where are you most excited to race at?
Pac-12's.
Â
What is your job as the coxswain?
My job as a coxswain is to make sure the boat is moving smoothly and in the right direction. On top of steering and maneuvering through other boats, I make sure my crew is all on the same page on what they are supposed to be doing.

What is your favorite part about being a coxswain?
My favorite part about being a coxswain is seeing my rowers succeed, and seeing the improvements as a boat over time.

What is your major? Why did you chose your major?
I am a Fish and Wildlife Science major interested in fisheries management.

If you could vacation anywhere where would it be? Why?
I would vacation in New Zealand to fly fish.
Â
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself in a fishery position somewhere other than Oregon, or traveling around the country.
