
Beavers Take Three of Four From Zags

LOWELL, Ore. – The Oregon State women's rowing team won three out of four races against Gonzaga Saturday morning at Dexter Reservoir. Crews from both teams raced hard in sunny and flat-water conditions.
The Beavers' Varsity 8, which now has wins in both of its races this spring, covered the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6-minutes, 30.1-seconds. The crew consisting of Olivia Ashby, Alina Hagstrom, Mimi Ballinger, Eliza Adams, Paige Philips, Katie Descheemaeker, Abigail Watts, Scout Sutton and directed by Heather Thompson, secured the squad's widest margin of victory over Gonzaga (6:37.0) of nearly seven seconds.
OSU's Second Varsity 8 held on for a four-second win to register its first win of the season. The 2V8 took an early lead over the Bulldogs and held the advantage through the length of the course to record the win, 6:45.3-6:49.4.
In the Varsity 4+ race, Oregon State registered a second place finish sandwiched by a pair of Gonzaga crews. The Beavers' finished with a time of 7:34.7, nearly 10 seconds behind the first place crew and 20 seconds ahead of the third place boat.
Oregon State's Novice 8, which was largely comprised of rowers that had already raced earlier in the day, recorded the Beavers final win of the day. The OSU crew crossed the finish line 3.5 seconds ahead of the Gonzaga crew with a time of 7:12.6.
The Beavers are back on the water next Saturday when they travel to the Palouse to take on No. 13 Washington State.
