Beavers Fall to Little Rock on Friday Night
January 26, 2024 | Wrestling
HILLSBORO, Ore. – The 16th-ranked Oregon State wrestling team saw their three-match Pac-12 win streak – that dated back to last season – snap at the hands of No. 30 Little Rock on Friday night.
30th-ranked Little Rock took the dual with a 20-17 score, clinched with a win at the heavyweight bout to secure the result.
The visitors led for the majority of the dual, with the exception of two bouts, following OSU wins at 174 and 184. Timely wins for the Beavers at 141, 149 and 157 helped build them out from an early deficit before Matthew Olguin (174) and Trey Munoz (184) gave the Beavers a 17-14 lead. Olguin used a 20-4 technical fall win to give Oregon State a much-needed jolt.
18th-ranked Cleveland Belton got the Beavers on the board with a 7-5 win by decision over Little Rock's Cael Keck. A reversal and the bonus riding time point were just what Belton needed to pull away after the two were deadlocked at 4.
Nash Singleton – ranked 18th and a former winner at the Reser's Tournament of Champions – built up an early lead to win at decision, 11-8 despite trading takedowns late against Kyle Dutton.
Isaiah Crosby registered a ranked win when he defeated Matty Bianchi – 27th in the country – at 9-7. Crosby battled back from an early deficit to flip it to an 8-3 advantage before holding onto it for the win.
After two frames, Olguin quickly took control of the bout with a 13-2 lead and over two minutes of riding time over Brendon Abdon on the way to the 20-4 win. A bout later, Munoz struck first for the first points in late stages of the first before building a 10-5 lead going into the third. Munoz staved off Triston Wills for the win by decision at 11-8.
Oregon State will hit the road for their last three duals of the season, first to Tempe for a battle with Arizona State. Action from Tempe is set for Noon PT and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks Oregon.
