Beavers Compete in 2024 Head of the Charles Regatta
October 20, 2024 | Men's Rowing
BOSTON, Mass. – The Oregon State men's rowing team placed 10th in the men's championship fours at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, which came one day after the alumni eights secured their place in the 2025 event.
"The goals for this race are always the same: put down a solid piece, pass boats and have fun. This 4+ did all three," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "This is the most competitive field at the regatta and they held their own against the best in the game. They attacked it aggressively and never fell off from the pace.
"Coxswain Lidya Acar got a shoutout for having a 'strong Boston line' in her steering which is high praise," Winkler added. "Four out of the five in the boat are seniors so this was a perfect final Charles for them."
Just one boat was in action in a race that saw the Beavers finish in 16:28.630, close behind Brown's A boat (16:23.505) and Gialle Fiamme A (16:21.554) while beating out San Diego RC A (16:28.630).
Nine Beaver alumni were also in action during the Head of the Charles Regatta, competing in the Men's Alumni Eights on Saturday. Coxed by Benjamin Garrison, the alumni eights finished the course in 15:49.935, securing a bid for next year's event.
"Shout out to the OSU Alumni 8+ for securing a bid for next year," Coach Winkler said. "The crushed the course in yesterday's Alumni 8+ event."
The Beavers are back in action next weekend, staying close to home to compete in the 2024 Portland Fall Classic on Sunday, Oct. 29.
