First and Second Eights Finish in Second at Head of the Lake
November 03, 2024 | Men's Rowing
SEATTLE, Wash. – Competing in its last head race of the fall season, Oregon State men's rowing was in action on Sunday, participating in the 2024 Head of the Lake, hosted by Washington.
"Overall, all the boats had good pieces. The Varsity 8+ had their fastest time ever on this course and the JV was just one second off their all-time PR for the Head of the Lake, and the 3Vs came off feeling good about their race too," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "This gives us some good motivation for the off season. It's what you do behind closed doors in the next couple of months that can determine success in the spring."
The first and second eights both finished in second place in their respective races, while the Men's Collegiate 3V8+ saw the Beavers' third and fourth boats come in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Coxed by Lidya Acar, the varsity eights finished behind reigning IRA National Champions Washington in 15:18.520, while besting third place Washington State by some 36 seconds. The second eights also came in behind the Huskies while finishing ahead of British Columbia, Washington State and Lewis & Clark.
In the final race of the day, OSU had two boats competing; the third eights' 'A' boat cut down a five second disadvantage at Fox Point to finish less than three seconds behind the Huskies' third-place finisher and five seconds ahead of the other Beaver third eight boat.
OSU men's rowing returns to action next weekend, rounding out its fall season with the 2024 Orange and Black Regatta. Registration is now open and can be found at this link.
