Beavers Battle Rain in Eugene
March 23, 2024 | Women's Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon State battled the rain and the opposition to post several strong results at Friday and Saturday's Oregon Preview.
Â
The Beavers saw the return to action of multiple athletes including Jazlyn Romero and Eimy Martinez as well as event debuts like Lizzie Hatton in the 100 meters and Maya Baechler in the 800 meters.
Â
"Always a bit of a challenge getting up for a competition at the end of finals week. Especially after having such great weather at home last weekend. I felt that we were sluggish in some areas - but fought through the rain and cold to end the meet successfully in the 800. Was happy to see Maya execute well racing to a 2:10 in the 800, it's a great season opener and bodes well for her chances to get to the regionals later in the year," head coach Louie Quintana said.
Â
Overall, we took it as a good work weekend. We will rest up and get really geared up for Stanford next weekend.  We are very much looking forward to that meet.
Â
Kate Sorensen posted the day's lone new OSU Top 10 time in the elements, recording a 24.65-second 200 meters to place fourth in the race and ninth all-time at Oregon State. Anneke Moersdorf and Jada Hurley also picked up strong results, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles and 100 meters respectively.
Â
Maryann Ackerman placed second with a 45.97m/150-10 toss in the javelin while Caitlyn Marx recorded a 41.39m/135-09 discus throw to place fourth.
Â
Baechler just missed the Oregon State top 10 by five-hundredths of a second with a 2:10.77 mark in the 800 meters.
