Pair of Beavers Finish Top-10 at World Championships
August 27, 2024 | Women's Rowing
ST. CATHARINES, Ontario – A pair of Oregon State rowers competed in the 2024 World Championships last week, both finding great success.
"It was great to be in St. Catharines to support our Beaver athletes, Giulia and Linda, as they competed at the World Rowing Championships," Head Coach Michael Eichler said. "Having both make it into the A final with Giulia winning a silver medal is a great feat and continues to demonstrate the skill and competitiveness of this Oregon State program.
"Both of them embody what it means to be a Beaver and they represented themselves, their countries and Beaver Nation exceptionally well," Eichler continued. "I look forward to welcoming Giulia back to campus and Linda to campus for the first time."
In the lightweight 1x final, rising junior Giulia Clerici used a late sprint in the final third of the course to win a silver medal. This past season at OSU, the Moltrasio, Italy, native stroked the varsity eight in all five spring regattas, helping the boat win the season opener and later finish fourth at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships.
Incoming freshman Linda Weitmann, competing for her home country of Austria, finished in sixth place in the U23 W2 - A Final. With the completion of the World Championships, Weitmann will soon join the Beavers for her freshman year.
Clerici, Weitmann and the Beavers are slated to compete in several head race regattas this fall ahead of the 2025 spring season. The race schedule will be made available at a later date.
