
Beavers Blow By Aztecs

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team posted an emphatic 4-1 victory over San Diego State Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field.
Sergi Solans found the net twice, scoring a pair for the Beavers in the first half. Dante Williams got on the score sheet in the second half, before Arnau Farnos scored the Oregon State fourth from the penalty spot.
Solans and Farnos are now tied for the team-lead with three goals apiece this season. Fabian Straudi had two assists in the contest, while Ellis Spikner brought his season total to eight points on two goals a team-high four assists.
Oregon State nearly opened the scoring less than five minutes into the contest, as Farnos hammered a shot off the crossbar from 24 yards out. Solans put the Beavers in front minutes later, slotting one home from eight years out off assists from Straudi and Spikner.
Solans netted his second in the 25th minute to double the Beaver advantage. Spikner and Tomas Bedouret had back-to-back shots late in the first half, but could not convert as Oregon State headed to the break leading by two.
Williams came close to scoring his first of the season in the opening minute of the second half, as his curling effort was saved off the post. The Aztecs pulled one back on a penalty kick in the 50th minute.
Williams answered with a goal in the 64th minute, finishing from point-blank range off a rebound. Farnos sealed the deal with a penalty kick less than 90 seconds later.
As a team, the Beavers out-shot the Aztecs 19-3 in the contest.
The Beavers will return to action Thursday when No. 9 Seattle U visits Lorenz Field.
