Beavers Hit .356 in Sweep of Santa Clara

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State volleyball hosted Santa Clara on Thursday, sweeping the Broncos 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20 at Gill Coliseum.
Lauren Rumel led the way offensively, hitting .400 on her way to a match-high 15 kills (5.0/set), also adding three blocks. Rumel, who has played in 93 sets as a senior, is now up to a team-leading 360 kills. Alana Marrs led all hitters with a match-high .667 clip, tallying 10 kills, which was her second performance this season with 10 or more kills and a hitting percentage north of .600.
Maëli Cormier finished with nine kills (3.0/set) and hit .400 in the match while Jackie Matias posted her seventh double-double of the season with a team-high 12 digs and 33 assists.
After hitting .319 in last weekend's sweep of Pacific, the Beavers finished with a .356 clip against Santa Clara, marking the second time this season that OSU has hit .300 or better in consecutive games, having accomplished the feat in consecutive matchups against Montana State (Sept. 11 - .400) and UC Irvine (Sept. 12 - .310).
Oregon State opened the match with a close 25-23 victory in set one but broke things wide open in set two, as staunch defense held the Bronco attack to a .000 hitting percentage; offensively a trio of 4-0 runs to closed it out at 25-16. With a back-and-forth third set that included six ties and three lead changes, the Beavers built a lead as big as six (20-14) before closing the match on a Cormier kill.
Beaver volleyball returns to action Saturday, hitting the road to face Seattle U. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
