Comeback Falls One Play Short
December 14, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State made play after play to force overtime after being down 48-40 with 2:55 to play but their comeback fell one play short in a 55-53 loss to Arizona State.
"[Arizona State] is a team who hasn't lost yet. They play extremely physically and are disruptive," head coach Scott Rueck said. "I thought we competed at a very high level for the majority of the day and in the second half. What a fun experience that was."
"We had an opportunity to take control in overtime but just could not get the ball to go down and give them a ton of credit for playing good defense. I'm proud of the fight we showed, and I am really encouraged looking forward," Rueck continued.
Tiara Bolden, Kennedie Shuler and Jenna Villa delivered many of the clutch moments down the stretch. Bolden hit back-to-back triples to tie the game while Shuler grabbed nearly every loose ball and Villa scored five points in the final period.
The junior almost hit a game-winner that rimmed out from nearly halfcourt, while Bolden made the first shot of the overtime period. Unfortunately for the Beavs, it was their only make of the frame as shots just wouldn't fall.
Villa finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Bolden scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. She also grabbed six rebounds, blocked a shot and had two steals.
Néné Sow was the game's unsung hero for the Beavers, entering the game for the first time in the second half and grabbing 12 rebounds in 24 minutes. Shuler's rebounding was also crucial with 10 boards.
Up next, the Beavers head to Maui to take on Liberty and Montana State in the ninth annual Maui Classic.
