THE MATCHUP:
Sunday's meet marks the second time that the Beavers and Spartans have met, last competing head-to-head on Jan. 17 inside Gill Coliseum when OSU scored a season high 197.600 which featured nine different 9.900 or higher scores and season high rotation scores on vault (49.275) and bars (49.350).
ROAD WARRIORS:
This weekend's meet is number four out of four-consecutive road competitions, a stretch that has included matchups against several ranked opponents. The Beavers have now been on the road five times this season, opening the year with a second-place finish at the American Gold Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Classic against then-ranked No. 4 California and No. 10 UCLA before scoring a 196.975 at Auburn, 196.950 at the Denver Quad, 196.025 at the Metroplex Challenge and 196.625 at the Stanford Quad.
Oregon State next competes inside Gill Coliseum against Air Force on March 15.
LAST MEET:
OSU's last meet came against No. 5 California, No. 14 Stanford and UC Davis inside Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University. The Beaver bars led the way with a 49.300 rotation score, including Sage Thompson's 9.925 that was the highest score by any Beaver gymnast on Friday, as Oregon State put up a 196.625 team score to finish third.
HOMETOWN HERO:
The drive from San Francisco, Calif., to Stanford is less than 40 miles, meaning Mia Heather was close to home on Friday. With a large crowd of family and friends in attendance, the sophomore made her collegiate debut, stepping in to anchor the beam lineup and earning a 9.825. Having exhibitioned on the beam five times already in 2025, a 9.825 was the second highest score she's seen this season, having earned a 9.850 for her exhibition routine against San Jose State on Jan. 17.
ALL-AROUNDER:
Prior to Friday's meet, Jade Carey was the only OSU gymnast to compete in the all-around at some point in 2025. After last week, that number doubled, as Jennifer McMillan competed on every event for the first time in her career while down on The Farm.
The Charlotte, N.C., native previously had just one vault score to her name, a 9.775 on Jan. 4, 2025, and only completed exhibition routines on floor, but finished Friday's meet with a 39.075. This included a 9.800 on bars and 9.825 beam score, while her first floor routine culminated in a 9.775; McMillan now holds season averages of 9.725 (vault), 9.761 (bars), 9.750 (beam) and 9.775 (floor).
ANCHOR:
Sage Thompson's fantastic senior season continued at Stanford, as the Lehi, Utah, native competed on three events like she has in every competition this season, stepping up with a pair of strong scores in the anchor spot on vault (9.825) and bars (9.925).
Through nine competitions and 27 total routines, Thompson has seen a 9.800 or higher 21 different times, which includes six scores of 9.900 or better. Currently tied for 35th in the nation on bars, Thompson has been a critical part of the Beavers' 10th-ranked floor lineup, averaging a 9.856 while posting no lower than a 9.825 in each of the last seven competitions.
FINDING HER FORM:
OSU has competed in nine meets this season. Nine times, Savannah Miller has led off the floor lineup. On Friday, it was a 9.875 that was her sixth 9.825 or higher floor score this season and fifth in the last six meets. Miller, who also set a new season high on bars (9.800) and completed an exhibition vault for the first time, now holds season averages of 9.758 on the uneven bars and 9.772 on floor.
SHOWING OFF:
Olivia Buckner has primarily competed on vault and beam across her first two seasons at Oregon State, but over the weekend, she made her debut on floor exercise. A weekly contributor to the Beavers' seventh-ranked beam lineup who had completed three exhibitions on floor in 2025, she slid into the two spot and earned a 9.800 while also vaulting, which marked the first time in her collegiate career that she has competed three or more events in the same meet.
BOUNCE BACK:
After competing in the bars lineup in each of her first 18 meets as a Beaver, Taylor DeVries completed an exhibition routine against Washington and Alaska on Feb. 11. In the next meet, she was back in the top six, where the Roscoe, Ill., native has remained since. On Friday, DeVries' work culminated in a season high 9.875, bringing her season total to four 9.800-plus scores in eight bars routines and a season average of 9.769.
UNDERRATED:
Over the weekend, one gymnastics-focused social media account posted about underrated gymnasts, a post which included Kaitlin Garcia. Garcia has been a pivotal part of the 11th ranked Beavers this season, competing on both vault and floor. In recent weeks, she's found a groove as a vaulter, averaging a 9.888 across the team's last four meets, while on floor she has scored a 9.850 or better in six of nine competitions – which includes a career high 9.950 the last time Oregon State competed against San Jose State.
MOMENTUM:
In the Stanford Quad on Friday, the leadoff spot in each lineup played a key role. Across the four rotations, three different Oregon State student-athletes put up a 9.875 to start a rotation. In the first routine of the meet, that was Miller leading off floor, while DeVries' 9.875 gave the bars lineup early momentum before another strong routine from Sophia Esposito led off the beam lineup.
