HOME STATE ADVANTAGE:
Though some 300 miles separate her hometown and Denton, Camryn Richardson will compete in her home state for the first time as a collegiate gymnast. A freshman from Pearland, Texas, Richardson is coming off a solid showing against Southern Utah that included a 9.875 on the uneven bars and 9.775 on vault. Across seven team competitions, Richardson has competed in six meets primarily in the vault and bars lineups.
STRONG SHOWING:
Olivia Buckner had her best meet of the season against SUU, earning a trio of 9.800 or better scores that included two 9.875s on vault and floor. Her vault score was a season high while the floor score tied a season high mark for the Riverton, Utah, native, who has appeared in every single meet this season as part of the vault and floor lineups while competing on floor in the last five weeks.
MAMA (MIA):
Mia Heather has been a steady presence in the Oregon State beam lineup, hitting in all seven meets and earning a career-best 9.900 when the Beavs hosted Utah State on Jan. 25. Against Southern Utah last weekend, Heather moved into the leadoff spot and was given a 9.825, bringing her season average to 9.782.
EXPERIENCE MATTERS:
Lauren Letzsch has competed in the Beaver beam lineup in all seven competitions this season, winning three total event titles. Against SUU, Letzsch set a new season-high mark, 9.925, that came within striking distance of the 9.950 she earned last season. With the fantastic routine, Letzsch officially reached 90 hits in her collegiate career, while the score was top mark in the meet, making it two-consecutive weeks with a beam event title.
MARCHAL MAGIC:
Reina Marchal has been a fixture in the Beaver vault and floor lineups this season, excelling particularly on floor exercise. Against Southern Utah, Marchal, who didn't compete as a freshman, set a new season and career high, earning the first 9.900 of her collegiate career to help the Beavers finish with a season-best 39.400. A sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., Marchal has hit on all 12 of her routines this season.
ESPOSITO'S EXCELLENCE:
The 2024 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Sophia Esposito has been a standout performer in every single competition this season and had yet another excellent performance against Southern Utah. Tying a career-high on both bars (9.900) and floor (9.950), Esposito won two more event titles, bringing her season total to a team-leading eight, while finishing the meet with a 39.450 all-around score.
Entering Sunday's quad meet, Esposito is now averaging a 9.800 or better on all four events and has now tallied a 9.950 on floor exercise in each of her three seasons at OSU.
SOLID EVERYWHERE:
Richardson, Buckner, Heather, Letzsch, Marchal and Esposito weren't the only Beavers to tally high scores against SUU, as several others had strong performances. Ellie Weaver earned a season-high score on the beam, 9.875, while Francesca Caso (bars) and Savannah Miller (floor) both earned 9.850s. Kaylee Cheek was also in the 9.900 club, earning the first 9.900 of her collegiate career on any event after a fantastic beam routine.
