Beavers Down Portland 5-3 In Midweek Matchup
May 13, 2025 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – AJ Singer went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and No. 7 Oregon State scored twice in the seventh en route to a 5-3 win over Portland Tuesday in front of 3,542 fans at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Singer drove in runs on singles in both the first and fifth innings and Tyce Peterson and Dallas Macias drove in runs with the bases loaded in the seventh to break a 3-3 stalemate. Peterson battled back from 1-2 to walk on an eight-pitch at bat with the bases loaded. Macias followed that by getting hit by a pitch on a 2-0 count.
Canon Reeder also drove in a run on a single with two down in the fifth. The Beavers (38-12-1) scored all of their runs with two outs.
James DeCremer made his first collegiate start and scattered five hits and a run with three strikeouts in four innings of work. He was followed by Zach Kmatz, Zach Edwards and Laif Palmer.
Palmer, the last of the three relievers, improved to 2-0 after going 2 1/3 innings. He did not allow a hit and faced just seven batters, striking out one.
Portland (21-27) evened the score in the second, following Singer's first RBI of the day in the first, when Zach Toglia hit a solo home run to left. The Pilots eventually loaded the bases later in the inning with DeCremer getting out of the jam.
Riley McCarthy evened the score at three when he singled in two in the sixth.
Kaden Segel started for Portland and allowed five hits and three runs – two earned – in 4 2/3 innings. Kaden Starr, the third pitcher for the Pilots, took the loss to drop to 0-2. He allowed two hits and two runs.
Aiva Arquette also finished with two hits as OSU tallied nine overall.
