QUICK STRIKE:
196 seconds separated both of Oregon State's goals against Weber State, finding the net at the 19:51 and 23:07 marks on the clock. Scoring goals in quick succession has been a hallmark of the Caroline Kelly Beavs, who had multiple goals in quick succession in five games last season: Sept. 15 against South Dakota State (two goals separated by 11 minutes), Sept. 19 at Wyoming (two goals separated by three minutes), Sept. 28 versus Gonzaga (four goals in 20 minutes of game play), Oct. 9 at home against San Francisco (two goals in 13 minutes) and at San Diego on Oct. 12, when Carly Carraher and McKenna Martinez sealed a 3-1 victory with goals separated by just three minutes.
OPPORTUNITY:
Across two seasons at Washington State, Nathalie Lewis only started once and never played more than 48 minutes in a game. Across two games as a Beav, the Queen Creek, Ariz., native scored a game-tying goal against Washington and opening the scoring against Weber State, starting both games and playing 159 total minutes.
Though the team didn't play last weekend, she is tied for second among players in the WCC for total goals (2) and points (4), while making four attempts to score - three of which were on target.
COOL, CALM, COLLECTED:
Paola Figueroa scored in the 23rd minute against Weber State, getting on the end of a deflected cross and calmly finishing at the near post for her first goal of the season. The last time she found the net was in Oregon State's 2-1 win over then-ranked No. 11 Santa Clara on Nov. 2, 2024, capitalizing calmly on a Bronco error to finish on an open net from outside the 18-yard box.
After posting nine goals and seven assists in her lone season at Antelope Valley College, Figueroa now has two goals and four assists across 36 appearances (28 starts) as a Beaver.
HELPERS:
Carly Carraher was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2024 after setting career-best marks for single season goals (three), assists (two) and points (eight). That momentum has carried into 2025, as the Portland native has two assists in the team's first two games, playing 163 of a possible 180 minutes so far this season.
IMPRESSIVE OUTINGS:
Mya Sanchez, an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2024 and member of the 2025 All-WCC Preseason Team, has been crucial for the Beavers so far this season. After making three game-altering saves against Washington, including in a one-on-one situation early in the second half, she kept the Beavers in the game against Weber State, tying a career high with nine saves.
Through two games in 2025, Sanchez has 12 saves and a save percentage of 75.0.
STARTING XI:
Kassidy Michael and Hailey Martinez made their first starts in the orange and black against Weber State, both playing alongside Megin Turi on the backline of the Oregon State defense. Michael, a transfer from Division II side Southern New Hampshire, played all 90 minutes while Martinez, also making her first career start after debuting mere days prior against UW, played 71 minutes.
LONG TIME COMING:
Isa Calderon entered the pitch late in the first half against Weber State, finally playing for the Beavs nearly 18 months after initially committing. After announcing her verbal commitment in March of 2024, the Tijuana, Bahja California, Mexico, native officially signed on Nov. 14, 2024, and played three minutes in her debut last weekend.
ON THE COME UP:
Though OSU boasts a veteran-laden roster, underclassmen have played a big role through two games. Abbi Leonard, a redshirt freshman, started at Washington with Martinez (sophomore), Avery Pleiman (freshman) and London Tsuma (freshman) receiving playing time off the bench. Days later against Weber State, Calderon, Leonard, Martinez, Pleiman and Tsuma all entered the game as substitutes, with Tsuma playing a bench-leading 47 minutes.
BEAVS IN THE PROS:
With Katie Godden (Charlton Athletic / England) and McKenna Martinez (Valadares Gaia / Portugal) each signing professional contracts after the conclusion of last season, Oregon State has officially sent six players into the professional ranks across the last four seasons. Led off by Laura Galceran and Bridgette Skiba in 2021, Reese Moffatt signed a deal in 2022 before Hailey Coll in 2023 and both Godden and Martinez in 2024.
In total, there are currently 10 former Beavers active in the professional ranks, playing in countries such as Portugal, Norway, Spain, England, Mexico and the United States; this list is highlighted by Bella Bixby (née Geist), who currently plays for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), but also includes Kate Evans (West Brom), Emma Jones (Portsmouth) and Greta Espinoza (Tigres).
BACK THE PAC:
Oregon State will play its final season in the West Coast Conference this fall before returning to Pac-12 play in 2026. All eight of the conference's other members, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State, sponsor women's soccer, each bringing a high level of talent to the conference. Utah State is the reigning Mountain West Tournament Champion, also winning the conference tournament in 2023, while Boise State was crowned regular season champion in 2024 after San Diego State was crowned regular season champions the year prior. Texas State is coming off a 12-win season that ended with a 3-2 loss in the Sun Belt Championship while Gonzaga was recently picked to finish third in the WCC.
