CAPITALIZING:
Rin Choi found the back of the net in the 26th minute of Thursday's game, marking her first as a Beav and giving the team an early advantage. The midfielder played all 90 minutes and finished with two shots, making her third start in as many games this season. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Choi has been a key figure for the Beavers this season and enters Sunday's contest as the team leader in shots with six.
WOODWORK:
The Beavers were mere inches away from a 3-0 lead against Idaho State, with two second half chances hitting the woodwork. Megin Turi found an open look in the box in the 47th minute but put it off the far post and Alyssa White let it rip from 25 yards in the 66th minute but her shot bounced off the crossbar and out.
OSU finished the game with an 11-8 advantage in total shots, with both teams level at three in shots on goal.
BACK IN THE BACK:
Abbi Leonard started in her first career appearance in the season opener against Washington before coming off the bench against Weber State. On Thursday, Leonard was back in the starting eleven, playing all 90 minutes for a Beaver program that was mere seconds away from posting its first clean sheet of the season. A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Leonard has played 199 minutes across three appearances this season.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
A freshman from Nashville, Tenn., White made her first appearance as a Beaver on Thursday, finishing with two shots across 66 minutes played. She brings an international flare to the 2025 roster, having previously played in Ireland, Germany and Spain, most recently with Wexford FC In the Irish Premier League, recording with one goal and three assists while helping the team finish fourth in the table. A standout athlete for Battle Ground Academy, White won two Tennessee state championships to go with two First Team All-State selections, three All-Region selections and four All-District selections across her high school career.
HELPERS:
Carly Carraher was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2024 after setting career-best marks for single season goals (three), assists (two) and points (eight). That momentum has carried into 2025, as the Portland native has a team-leading two assists in three games, playing 217 of a possible 270 minutes so far this season.
IMPACT PLAYERS:
17 different student-athletes have earned playing time through three games. Among those 17, several have been key figures in the lineup, with seven athletes playing 200 or minutes. Turi, Mia Erba and Mya Sanchez have all played every single minute this season while Adele Schwab (240), Nathalie Lewis (229), Choi (228), Carraher (217), Emily Ibsen (206) and Paola Figueroa (205) are all up over 200; Leonard is close at 199 minutes spent on the pitch through three games.
ON THE COME UP:
Though OSU boasts a veteran-laden roster, underclassmen have played a big role through three games. All three of the team's true freshmen have played this season, with London Tsuma and Avery Pleiman appearing in all three games and Isa Calderon playing twice. Sophomore Hailey Martinez started one of her two appearances while White made her OSU debut against Idaho State.
BEAVS IN THE PROS:
With Katie Godden (Charlton Athletic / England) and McKenna Martinez (Valadares Gaia / Portugal) each signing professional contracts after the conclusion of last season, Oregon State has officially sent six players into the professional ranks across the last four seasons. Led off by Laura Galceran and Bridgette Skiba in 2021, Reese Moffatt signed a deal in 2022 before Hailey Coll in 2023 and both Godden and Martinez in 2024.
In total, there are currently 10 former Beavers active in the professional ranks, playing in countries such as Portugal, Norway, Spain, England, Mexico and the United States; this list is highlighted by Bella Bixby (née Geist), who currently plays for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), but also includes Kate Evans (West Brom), Emma Jones (Portsmouth) and Greta Espinoza (Tigres).
BACK THE PAC:
Oregon State will play its final season in the West Coast Conference this fall before returning to Pac-12 play in 2026. All eight of the conference's other members, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State, sponsor women's soccer, each bringing a high level of talent to the conference. Utah State is the reigning Mountain West Tournament Champion, also winning the conference tournament in 2023, while Boise State was crowned regular season champion in 2024 after San Diego State was crowned regular season champions the year prior. Texas State is coming off a 12-win season that ended with a 3-2 loss in the Sun Belt Championship while Gonzaga was recently picked to finish third in the WCC.
