August 31, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Oregon State volleyball team closed the first weekend of 2025 with a setback to Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0.
Oregon State (0-2) was led offensively by Maëli Cormier and her career-best 10 kills with Lauren Rumel following closely with nine to her credit while Jackie Matias kept the attack going with a season-best 19 kills. Defensively, Rumel paced the Beavers with eight kills while Alana Marrs put up a season-high four blocks.
Long Beach State held OSU to a .189 hitting rate, including a .067 clip in the final set.
In the opening frame, the hosts used timely scoring runs to pull away from Oregon State to take the first at a 25-17 score. Both teams traded multiple leads and even tying eight times in a closely-contested second, with not much separation between the sides until the Beach took advantage of an Alondra Paz miscue to make it 24-21. Despite battling back from an early six-point deficit, LBSU once again utilized suffocating runs to seal the sweep at 25-16.
Oregon State will stay on the road this upcoming week, heading to Idaho for the Boise State Classic starting against former Pac-12 foe, Arizona. First serve against the Wildcats is set for 4:30 p.m. on September 6.
