OPPORTUNITY AWAITS:
Oregon State entered last weekend averaging exactly 10 shots per game. Heading into this weekend against Nebraska and South Dakota State, that average is now exactly 12, thanks to a combined 28 attempts on goal across both games. The Beavs out-shot their opponents in both contests, holding an 11-8 advantage against ISU before out-shooting New Mexico 17-12, with shots on goal level in both matchups.
CORNERING THE OPPOSITION:
Not only did OSU out-shoot its competition last weekend, it also led to several quality scoring opportunities by way of corner kicks. After posting four against Idaho State, the Beavers took 11 corners during Sunday's game against New Mexico, bringing the season total to 25, which is an average of 6.3 per game.
NIGHT SHIFT:
Thursday's matchup at Nebraska will kick off at 7:05 p.m. Central / 5:05 p.m. Pacific, making it the third time this year that OSU has played a game that starts at 5 p.m. or later. Though both Beaver losses have come during day games, both of the team's draws came in later games, tying Washington after a 7 p.m. kick and playing Idaho State to a 1-1 draw after kicking off at 5 p.m. Pacific.
SHOT STOPPER:
Mya Sanchez was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2024 after playing every single minute of the season and making 92 saves. The lone goalkeeper named to the All-Conference Preseason Team in 2025, through four contests Sanchez is up to 19 saves, and is coming off a five-save performance against New Mexico that included a season-high single game save percentage of 83.3.
CENTERED:
Across the season's opening weeks of action, OSU has not kept the same starting eleven in back-to-back games. However, the defensive trio did stay the same last weekend, as Kassidy Michael, Abbi Leonard and Emily Ibsen played together on the backline. Ibsen and Leonard both went the full 90 with Michael playing 79 minutes against Idaho State, before Michael and Leonard each went the distance and Ibsen played 69 minutes when hosting New Mexico on Sunday.
ANOTHER DEBUT:
Nathalie Mejia, a graduate student from Silver Spring, Md., was a late addition to the program this summer after previously playing three seasons at Mount St. Mary's. As a senior in 2024, she finished with three goals and three assists across 18 appearances (16 starts), and entered Sunday's game against New Mexico late in the first half for her first minutes as a Beaver. The primary set piece taker during her time on the pitch, Mejia finished with six minutes played.
FINDING HER ROLE:
A freshman from Independence, Ky., Avery Pleiman has played a big role early in her career. Though she has been a reserve in all four contests, her minutes have increased in every single game, starting at eight against Washington before going up to 13 (Weber State), 17 (Idaho State) and 45 this past Sunday when hosting New Mexico. Against the Lobos, Pleiman also tallied the first shots of her collegiate career, putting two attempts on frame in the second half of a comeback attempt.
IRON WOMEN:
Through four games this season, there are six different Oregon State student-athletes averaging 75 or more minutes per appearance. Mia Erba and Mya Sanchez have both played every single minute and are joined by Megin Turi (80.75), Adele Schwab (79.25) and Rin Choi (75.25) as playing 75-plus in all four games; Kassidy Michael holds an average of 86.33 minutes played across three appearances.
ROAD WARRIORS:
Oregon State played at home on Aug. 31 and won't return to Paul Lorenz Field until it hosts Portland on Oct. 4, a span of 34 days that includes six games spread across four states and three time zones. The action starts with this weekend's games at Nebraska and South Dakota State then continues next Sunday, Sept. 14, at Utah. A week later, the Beavs travel to face Fresno State (Sept. 20, 12 p.m.) in the non-conference finale; OSU opens West Coast Conference Play at Pepperdine (Sept. 24, 3 p.m.) before rounding out the road stretch at LMU on Sept. 28.
BACK THE PAC:
Oregon State will play its final season in the West Coast Conference this fall before returning to Pac-12 play in 2026. All eight of the conference's other members, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State, sponsor women's soccer, each bringing a high level of talent to the conference. Utah State is the reigning Mountain West Tournament Champion, also winning the conference tournament in 2023, while Boise State was crowned regular season champion in 2024 after San Diego State was crowned regular season champions the year prior. Texas State is coming off a 12-win season that ended with a 3-2 loss in the Sun Belt Championship while Gonzaga was picked to finish third in the WCC preseason poll.
