NO LAYUPS
The Beavers thrive on creating low-percentage looks inside the arc under Scott Rueck. In his 16 seasons at the helm, OSU ranked in the top-10 of opponent two-point percentage eight times and in the top-25 14 times. Last season, the Beavs were exactly 25th (40.8%). Combine that with a low free-throw rate - OSU consistently ranks among the teams with the fewest fouls nationally - and it's easy to understand why teams struggle to find easy points against Oregon State.
Â
HOME SWEET HOME
It's no secret that Oregon State maintains a loyal and devoted fanbase, and it helps the Beavs on the court. OSU is 191-61 in Gill Coliseum since Scott Rueck took over as the head coach ahead of the 2010-11 season. The Beavers have a .500-or-better record in Gill against every multi-game opponent except Stanford and Notre Dame. OSU owns eight or more home wins against former Pac-12 foes Oregon, Colorado, UCLA, Utah and Washington during Rueck's tenure.
Â
BEST IN STATE
Maggie Warpus and Taylor Young each came to Corvallis with a case full of hardware after winning back-to-back state player of the year honors. Young, the Oregon 5A POTY, is a four-time conference and two-time state champion at Medford and Crater High Schools. She also owns the 5A state tournament record for points in a game and in a tournament. Warpus was the back-to-back New York Class B State POTY. She led her team to unprecedented heights, including its first state tournament appearance and a trip to the state championship game while setting the school record (girls and boys) with 1,886 career points.
