Williamson, Beavers Bludgeon Pilots in WCC Quarterfinals
March 08, 2026 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS – Oregon State dominated Portland on the glass and got an elite post performance from Lizzy Williamson to advance to the Credit Union 1 WCC Championship semifinals with a 60-50 victory Sunday at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Oregon State outrebounded the Pilots 54-29 — the best rebounding margin of the season — and outscored them 34-22 in the paint to pull away in a game that was tied after the first quarter.
Williamson posted season highs in both points and rebounds, finishing with 20 points and 16 boards. The center scored OSU's first eight points and was particularly big in the second half, scoring 10 of her points in the fourth quarter. Williamson also blocked three shots.
Jenna Villa tied her career high with six assists to go along with 10 points and eight rebounds. Tiara Bolden added 10 points and four rebounds, and Lara Alonso-Basurto contributed eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Kennedie Shuler added eight points, three assists and two steals while rebuffing Portland's physical press.
Trailing 15-13 after one quarter, Oregon State responded with an 18-10 second period to take a 31-25 halftime lead. The Beavs took control with a 12-0 run that turned a four-point deficit into an eight-point lead.
The surge began with baskets from Alonso-Basurto, continued with free throws from Shuler and Ally Schimel and closed with back-to-back layups from Alonso-Basurto and Williamson in the final 32 seconds to push the lead to 31-25 at the half.
OSU came out of the locker room and immediately extended the margin, with Shuler converting a layup and Williamson adding a basket to push the lead to 10 at 35-25. Portland trimmed the deficit to three on a 7-2 run of its own, but the Beavers responded with six consecutive points — capped by Bolden's two free throws — to push the lead back to eight heading into the fourth and never let Portland get closer than four the rest of the way.
OSU pulled down 24 offensive rebounds, most against a Division I opponent since Dec. 1, 2012 (26 v. Sacramento State) and held a 20-9 edge in second-chance points.
The Beavs dished out 15 assists on 21 baskets, connecting on assists on more than 71 percent of their made field goals.
Oregon State returns to the Orleans Arena on Monday at noon to battle top-seeded LMU with a trip to the WCC Championship Game on the line.
