Trey Morris went 4 2/3 innings in his second start of the year, Wyatt Queen backed him with 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and Albert Roblez worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save of the season. Queen picked up his first win of the season after recording two strikeouts. The trio held Lamar to three hits while issuing three walks with seven strikeouts.
Oregon State Notables
• Dax Whitney, Friday's probable starter, leads the nation with 78 strikeouts. He is averaging 17.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
• Whitney's last start was a no decision against Mercer. He gave up three runs, the first time allowing more than one this season.
• He was also named to the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award on Thursday.
• The teams combined to go 2-for-23 with runners on base Thursday. They were also 4-for-22 with two outs.
• OSU, did, however, put five of its nine leadoff batters on base. Lamar put just one on to open an inning.
• AJ Singer saw his hit streak snapped at 11 games Thursday. He did, however, record a walk and a hit by pitch and has now reached base safely in 15 straight games.
• Cooper Vance, meanwhile, has reached base safely in 19 straight. That's the longest by a Beaver this season.
• Albert Roblez saved his 10th game of the season Thursday. He's now one shy of equaling Mitch Hickey (2015), Max Engelbrekt (2016) and Ryan Brown (2023) for ninth-most in a single-season at Oregon State.
• Bryson Glassco recorded his first two-hit effort as a Beaver in the opener.
• Oregon State is now 12-3 in games decided by two runs or less this season.
• Thursday's shutout marked the first of the season for the Beavers. It's the 24th in seven seasons under Mitch Canham.
• The win also gave Canham 246 during his tenure at Oregon State. He's averaging 35 wins a season despite missing most of 2020 due to Covid-19 and being at the halfway point of 2026. Erase the shortened 2020 season and Canham is averaging 40 wins a year.
• The Beavers are 5-1 after a loss this season and 53-41 in Canham's seven seasons.
• The Beavers have now gone six consecutive games without an error and have committed just two in their last 11. Oregon State sports a .986 fielding percentage; the school record is .982 set in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
• Singer had a season-high six assists.
• Oregon State has out-scored its opponents, 39-14, in the first two innings.
• Oregon State is in the midst of a five-game road trip. After the trip, OSU will play just five games away from Goss Stadium, with two slated for the new Hillsboro Hops Stadium.
