HONOLULU - The No. 12 Oregon State softball team scored twice in the seventh innning against Loyola Marymount to tie things up and send the game into extra innings. The Beavers ended up defeating LMU, 4-3, in eight innings at the Bank of Hawaii Invitational on Saturday.
OSU (24-6-1) led 1-0 after a home run by Tarrah Beyster in the second inning, and the Beavers kept the lead until Jamie Lyons hit a three-run homer off Crystal Draper in the sixth to give LMU (18-12) a 3-1 advantage.
The Beavers sparked their comeback in the top of the seventh when Shawna Feldt led off with a single. She went to second after Brooke Rutschman grounded out, and then Shelly Prochaska singled to put runners at first and third. Beyster was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Jenni Jodoin then got a base hit to score Feldt. Brynnen Guthrie later walked with the bases loaded as Beyster scored the tying run.
Beyster came in to pitch for Draper in the bottom of the seventh, and she retired the side on a strikeout and two ground outs to send the game into extra innings.
Parisa Plant started the eighth off at second base on the international tiebreaker, and she went to third on a wild pitch. Feldt then ripped a base hit to left field to send the go-ahead run across the plate.
Beyster kept LMU off the basepath in the bottom of the eighth to preserve the lead. She picked up the win to improve to 14-5 on the year after throwing two innings of no-hit ball.
