Softball Picks Up 5-1 Win Over Northwestern

TUCSON, Ariz. - The 10th ranked Oregon State softball team managed just three hits but came away with a 5-1 win over Northwestern at the Hillenbrand Classic on Sunday.
OSU (18-4-1) jumped ahead early by scoring four runs on no hits in the first inning. With one out, Brynnen Guthrie was hit by a pitch, and then Jenni Jodoin walked. The two runners each advanced a base on a wild pitch, and Tarrah Beyster walked to load the bases. Jessica King came in to run for Beyster, and then Stephanie Adams walked to bring in the first run of the game. Another wild pitch brought Jodoin home, and a third wild pitch allowed King to score. Adams scored the final run of the inning on an error by Northwestern pitcher Lauren Schwendimann.
The Beavers got their only other run in the second, when Shannon Sorg scored on Shawna Feldt's RBI single. Feldt, Sorg and Beyster were the only three Beavers to get a hit in the game.
Northwestern (6-10) picked up seven hits off Beyster but the Wildcats also left seven runners stranded. NU scored its only run in the fifth inning, when Mikie Chambers scored on an error by Feldt.
Beyster improved to 11-4 with the win, while Schwendimann dropped to 2-6 with the loss. Brie Brown came in for Schwendimann in the second inning and gave up just two hits with no walks in 4.2 innings of work.
