CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Steven Jackson ran for 153 yards and set the Oregon State single-season rushing record as the Beavers handily beat Oregon 45-24 in their annual Civil War rivalry game Saturday.
With state bragging rights and a Pac-10 bowl position on the line, the Beavers (8-4, 4-4) finished with a slightly better season than the Ducks (7-5, 3-5), who had been ranked as high as No. 6 before losing five of their last six.
The game was dominated by Jackson, who ran for two scores and caught a 69-yard TD pass from Derek Anderson. It was the sophomore tailback's ninth game this season with 100-plus yards and he finished with 1,656 yards this season.
Jackson, who went into the game ranked fifth in the nation with an average of 136.6 yards a game, surpassed Ken Simonton's record of 1,559 yards set in 2000.
Anderson completed 21 of 37 passes for 370 yards and four touchdowns, upping his season total to 24 TDs and passing Jonathan Smith's school record of 20 set in 2000.
Oregon's Jason Fife completed 14 of 33 passes for 182 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted three times.
With the score tied at 3 in the first quarter, Jackson ran 16 yards for his 14th rushing TD this year.
Early in the second quarter, Jackson caught a slant pass from Anderson and ran it 69 yards for another touchdown. It was Jackson's second scoring catch this season.
The Ducks were woefully ineffective for most of the first half, and even the usually accurate Jared Siegel missed a 44-yard field goal.
But midway through the second quarter, the Ducks began to show some spark. Fife hit Keenan Howry with an 84-yard scoring pass, than ran for 11 yards for his own score to make it 17-all.
That woke up the Beavers, who added Anderson's 10-yard scoring pass to Shawn Kintner to make it 24-17 at halftime.
The Beavers extended the lead to 31-17 midway through the third quarter with Anderson's 19-yard scoring pass to Kenny Farley.
After Jackson rumbled down the right side for 39 yards, he added a 1-yard scoring dive to make it 38-17.
Howry's 63-yard punt return for a touchdown narrowed it with 5:51 left, but Anderson came back with a 40-yard scoring pass to James Newson for the final margin.
The Ducks were without star tailback Onterrio Smith, who had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee this week and is out for about three weeks.
Smith, who may opt for the NFL Draft next year, finished his season with 1,079 yards and 12 touchdowns in nine games.
Howry had four catches for 142 yards.
