CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jerra Lopez, Annie Campbell and Th?r?se Videan all captured individual titles, but the 16th-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team dropped a dual meet to No. 8 Stanford on Friday night. The Cardinal topped the Beavers, 196.700-196.000, in front of a season-high 3,461 fans at Gill Coliseum.
"This is a building step. We will continue to be better, but this is a very good stepping stone," said coach Tanya Chaplin. "It's been a long week. We just had a road trip with two meets in a row, and that's unusual for this sport. I was pleased to see them come back so strong."
Despite the team loss, the Beavers claimed top honors on three of the four individual events as well as the all-around.
Lopez won her first career all-around title with a career-high 39.400. She had a career-high 9.925 on bars to win that event, and she was second on floor (9.90) and third on beam (9.85).
Campbell took top honors on floor with a career-high 9.975 after receiving a 10.0 from one judge. Videan picked up her second vault title of the season with a career-high 9.90 to win that event, while Stanford's Lise Leveille won beam with a 9.90 routine.
Lindsay Nelson competed in the all-around for the fourth time this season, and she came away with a career-high 39.025 to become the 11th Beaver gymnast to surpass the 39.00 mark. She had a career-best 9.85 on floor to go along with a pair of 9.75s on beam and bars as well as a 9.675 on vault. Lopez, Campbell and Tanya Ricioli have also scored in the 39 range this year, making this the first time the Beavers have had four all-arounders score a 39.00 or better in the same season.
The Beavers opened the meet with four of the six vaulters tying or bettering their season-highs. Videan's 9.90 led the way, while Ricioli tied for third with her season-best 9.80. Lopez and Nelson matched their season-best marks. OSU finished the event with a 48.825, its third highest score on vault this year.
OSU had to count a fall on bars but still managed a 48.750. Lopez won the event for the third time this season, while Campbell turned in a career-best 9.90 to tie for second with Stanford's Becky Meldrum and Lindsay Wing. OSU also got a career-high from Heidi Goehring, who scored a 9.775 to lead off the rotation.
The Beaver beam team turned its strongest showing of the year with a season-high 49.025. Lopez led the team with a 9.85, while Campbell and Daylee Ingalls tied for fourth with 9.825 scores.
Campbell's near-perfect floor routine anchored a strong final rotation for the Beavers, who scored a 49.400 on their final event. Lopez recorded a 9.90 to tie for second, scoring in the 9.90 range on floor for the fourth time this season. Videan matched her personal best with a 9.875, while Nelson set a new best with her 9.85 score. OSU also counted Heather Justus' score of 9.80, which tied her best mark.
