Men's Soccer Drops Home Match To No. 12 UCLA

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's soccer team held No. 12 UCLA scoreless in the first half but fell, 3-0, to the Bruins Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Beavers (6-10-0, 1-8 Pac-10) came out aggressive in the first half and outshot the Bruins 10-4 with four of those shots on goal. Oregon State outshot UCLA 17-12 overall in the match.
"This one hurt because it didn't feel like a 3-0 loss," Oregon State head coach Steve Simmons said. "We outshot them. We out corner kicked them. I thought, for the most part, we had good chances. When you shoot 17 shots against a team like UCLA, you have to score. If we score one goal, it changes the complex of the game. And we never got a chance to do that.
"At the end there, we never got a chance to make some key plays defensively that would have kept us in the game. Soccer is a cruel game that way. That's why this one stings. Other than that, we played well. This is the way we wanted to play. You're at home. You're aggressive. It's Senior Day. I think guys were playing to win. The guys were trying to make a statement."
UCLA (13-4-1, 7-2-0 Pac-10) got its first goal at 48:43 when Shawn Singh stole a pass and shot from the left side to the bottom right side of the net. The Bruins added goals at 70:22 by Victor Chavez and 74:50 by Chandler Hoffman. Kelyn Rowe had two assists and Eder Arreola had one.
The Beavers held their annual Senior Salute on Sunday and recognized Chris Miller, Mike Parker, Brian Ramsey and Travis Sanchez for their contributions to the men's soccer program.
The Beavers will play their last regular season match this Friday against Washington at 7 p.m. at Paul Lorenz Field.
