
Volleyball Loses Regular Season Finale

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Camille Saxton had nine kills and Becky Defoe tallied 14 digs but the Oregon State volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to No. 6 Oregon Friday night in front of 2,023 fans at Gill Coliseum. Set scores were 12-25, 15-25 and 23-25.
The match was the second Civil War presented by Pacific Source, Your Local Ford Stores, Wells Fargo and McDonald's of the season and concluded the season for the Beavers. After the match, the Beavers honored their five seniors - Ashley Eneliko, Martie Massey, Megan McBride, Alyssa O'Neil and Saxton. All told, the group combined for 19 letters during their tenure.
Saxton led the Beavers (14-18 overall, 4-16 Pac-12 Conference) with nine kills in 29 attempts as Oregon State hit .188 as a team. Oregon (25-4, 16-4), meanwhile, hit .311 and was led by Katherine Fischer, who collected 15 kills.
Defoe finished with 14 digs and led the Beavers in that category for the 30th time this season. The junior ended her record-breaking season with 591 digs.
Oregon narrowly held the dig advantage, 39 to 34, and had 41 assists to the Beavers' 29, 25 of which were picked up by McBride. Oregon State had the advantage at the net with nine blocks to seven for Oregon. Arica Nassar accounted for eight blocks, including two solo.
McBride tallied her sixth double double of the season after adding 12 digs to go along with her 25 assists.
The lead changed hands once during the first set, which Oregon claimed, 25-12. The Ducks hit .303 to .043 for Oregon State as the Beavers managed just five kills during the frame.
Oregon took set two, 25-15, after seeing four ties and one lead change. The Beavers improved their hitting percentage to .185 but the Ducks also upped theirs to .483.
Set three was a far different story as the Beavers upped their hitting percentage again, to .286, and held Oregon to a .195 clip. OSU managed to tie the set at 21 before Oregon jumped out to a 24-21 lead. OSU pulled to within one before the Ducks put the match away with a 25-23 victory in set three,
