Brandner Homers, Beavers Drop Game at Arizona
April 29, 2018 | Softball
TUCSON, Ariz. – Hope Brandner hit her 10th home run of the season, but the Oregon State softball team fell to No. 10 Arizona 9-1 Sunday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz.
Brandner's homer was a solo shot in the fourth inning, over the left-field fence.
Alysha Everett and Michelle Sass tallied two hits apiece in the contest, while Chance Burden and Jessica Garcia both reached on walks.
Arizona threatened in the first inning, loading the bases with one out, but starting pitcher Mariah Mazon worked out of the jam to strand all three runners. The Wildcats would get on the board in the third inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs, after the frame was prolonged by two Oregon State errors.
The Beavers got a run back in the fourth, as Brandner launched her home run over the left-field wall. Arizona would respond by tacking on two more runs in the bottom of the frame, however, as the Wildcats headed to the fifth up 4-1.
Oregon State threatened in the fifth, putting a pair on base with back-to-back walks, but both runners were stranded. The Beavers again attempted to start a rally in the sixth with singles from Everett and Sass, but OSU could not capitalize.
Arizona hit a grand slam in the sixth to end the game after six innings of play.
The Beavers will return home this week, as they host Seattle U on Tuesday, before playing a three-game series against Washington over the weekend.
