
Oregon State Drops Both on First Day in Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. - The Oregon State softball team dropped games to both South Dakota State (SDSU) and Colorado State (CSU) on the first day of the Colorado Classic in Greeley, Colo.

Game one vs. South Dakota State - Lost, 7-0
Â
The first inning flew by with three-straight outs for both the Beavers and the Jackrabbits.Â
Â
Senior pitcher Nerissa Eason grabbed two strikeouts with freshman Xiao Gin and sophomore Frankie Hammoude combining for the third out but South Dakota State grabbed a 1-0 lead before the end of the inning.

Freshman Madison Simon led off the fourth inning after drawing a walk but freshman Charity Sevaaetasi grounded into a double-play. Junior Mariah Mazon drew a second walk in the fourth before the Jackrabbits left her on base with a third out.

The bottom of the fourth saw one hit and two runs for SDSU before the Jackrabbits earned another four runs in the fifth.Â

Switching to pitcher in the middle of the fifth inning, Gin's first pitch led to a South Dakota State home run. The Beavers closed the inning with a double-play from freshman Grace Messmer and Hammoude.Â

Oregon State held the Jackrabbits from gaining any additional runs in the sixth inning but was unable to score a run of their own.
Â
Eason notched three strikeouts with Gin garnering one.

Game two vs. Colorado State - Lost, 10-1
Â
Once again, the Beavers opened with a quick first inning. Both OSU and CSU notched three-straight outs in the first.

Colorado State started the second inning with a double. The Rams hit two more singles for a 2-0 lead before the end of the inning.Â
Â
Running through the third, Oregon State closed the score-gap with an RBI from junior Missy Nunes in the bottom of the fourth. Mazon scored after hitting a single earlier in the bottom half.

CSU advanced their lead after a Ram hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth.Â
Â
Batting in the bottom of the inning, sophomore Maia Rader notched a single from a bunt to open their offensive half. Mazon hit her second single of the day but CSU earned all three outs, leaving two Beavers on base.

The Rams added five runs in the seventh inning to take the game, 10-1.Â

Mazon pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.

The Beavers return to action tomorrow for the second day of the Colorado Classic. They will play Northern Colorado and Colorado State in Fort Collins as day two will be hosted by Colorado State.
