November 19, 2022 | Football
TEMPE, Ariz. – The 23rd-ranked Oregon State football team notched its eighth win of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the Beavers (8-3, 5-3 Pac-12) scorched Arizona State, 31-7, in Sun Devil Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
A successful day on the ground, Martinez found the endzone twice on 21 carries. Ben Gulbranson threw for 188 yards and a touchdown on 15 completions. Jack Velling's 74 yards through the air led OSU while Silas Bolden registered 54.
Three – Skyler Thomas (8), Omar Speights (7) and Kyrei Fisher-Morris (6) – tallied at least six stops to lead the Beavers defense.
After the sides traded the game's first two touchdowns, Oregon State took over and never looked back.
On the first drive of the day for the Beavers, Martinez scored his first touchdown to cap off a nine play, 78-yard drive for an early 7-0 lead. Following missed chances for both chances and the Sun Devils' score, Velling hauled in a 21-yard toss from Gulbranson for the lead they would not relinquish.
After the break, Martinez used a 12-yard run to finish the opening drive to stretch the lead to a pair of scores at 21-7. The scoring drive chewed up 5:10, accounting for 83 yards on 10 plays.
Just before the third quarter ended, Oregon State upped the advantage by another seven as Gulbranson called his own number as he carried it to the endzone for the 28-7 lead.
In the fourth, Everett Hayes connected on a 26-yard field goal to seal the result at 31-7.
The Beavers will return to Reser Stadium for The Rivalry against Oregon next Saturday. The Pac-12 exercised its six-day window for a kickoff time and will be announced tomorrow. It will be seen nationally on either ABC or ESPN.
